The North Carolina-based womenswear brand was founded in 2015 by Sarah Doggett Evenson, and its line of romantic maxi dresses, colorful tops, tailored shorts, and chic layering separates are designed to celebrate the everyday moments in a woman’s life, making any occasion feel special. 

Marie Oliver began with just seven core styles inspired by a beloved vintage caftan. Those signature pieces continue to inform the brand’s growing year-round collection of versatile, easy-to-wear silhouettes known for thoughtful design details—pin-tuck pleats, full sleeves, textured trim, ruffle detailing, playful custom patterns, and beautiful fabrics like metallic-threaded silk blends, lightweight cotton poplins, textural jacquards, and sophisticated vegan leather. Each Marie Oliver style is crafted with the purpose of empowering women through the joy of style.

Our Founder

Sarah Doggett Evenson is Founder and Creative Director of Marie Oliver.

Fashion wasn’t Sarah Evenson’s first career. Instead, the Marie Oliver founder pursued a successful career in finance before her creativity and entrepreneurial spirit won out. Combining her middle name, “Marie,” with her husband Peter’s middle name, “Oliver,” the pair launched their eponymous womenswear brand with a collection of versatile styles as colorful and bold as the women who wear them.

Forgoing New York or L.A., Sarah and Peter opted to headquarter the brand in their hometown of Greensboro, North Carolina. “Being in North Carolina rather than a fashion hub allows us to focus on our brand and define what success means for Marie Oliver rather than looking outward to make that determination,” Sarah says of the move. Marie Oliver’s playful yet sophisticated designs reflect her North Carolina roots but also the nostalgia and glamor of international travel. “Creating pieces that are easy to pack, lightweight, and effortless to wear is always top of mind when we’re designing.”
